Activation codes give users access to the full version of Maestro Label Designer. Without them, users can complete the same tasks, but will see a watermark across their labels when printing.
Maestro Label Designer is available for free to all users. However, without an activation code, you'll see a watermark across your labels when printing.
Clicking "Open directly from your browser" will open a PDF of your design in a new window. If you have a pop-up blocker enabled, it will stop your computer from opening your design. Find out how to turn off your pop-up blocker or select the "Download and Print" option instead (recommended).
Your computer's version of Adobe Reader could be another reason your PDF isn't generating. Make sure you have the most recent version of Adobe Reader. Download the newest version.
If your entire sheet is off in the same direction (every design is too far to the right, for example), it could have something to do with how your printer feeds the label sheets during printing. If your design is off in several ways, the browser you're using may be scaling your design.
Click the "Learn More" button below for a list of solutions to each problem.
Bleed is an industry term that refers to the process of extending your design 1/8" (0.125”) past the outline of your label. This “bleed zone” is a buffer that ensures your design prints to the edge of the label, even if printer shifting occurs. You should fill this section with background colors or imagery only, not critical design elements, as it may not make it onto your label. You can turn on bleed guidelines in Maestro Label Designer or see them automatically enabled in the Custom Printed Label tool.
Your designs will be saved in Maestro Label Designer, regardless of your activation status. However, without an activation code, you'll see a watermark across your labels when printing.
While Maestro Label Designer activation codes can't be used simultaneously, you can log them into the system so they're there when you need them. Once your current code activation code expires, you can activate another code from the list.
Yes. In Maestro Label Designer, click "Print" from the navigation in the top left. In the dialog box that appears, choose the option for "Printing by OnlineLabels.com." On the subsequent screen, choose a material, color option, and quantity. After clicking "Next," you'll see a preview of the label and some tips before continuing. Select "Approve Design and Add to Cart" when you're ready to proceed.
In some instances, PDF viewers can't process certain fonts or images. When this happens, the PDF viewer may add squares around your design or lines through it. You can eliminate this issue by telling your PDF viewer that your document is an image. Here's how:
In Adobe Reader (our recommended PDF viewer), hit print. Click "Advanced" toward the top. Check the box for "Print As Image."
You can import images to Maestro Label Designer by clicking on "Images" in the vertical toolbar to the left of the screen, then "+Upload New Image." To add the image to your design, click on the thumbnail preview. Your image will be automatically added to your label design.
To resize your image, select it on your canvas. Find any of the white boxes around the edges and pull them in or out to create your desired size. Note: By default, your image will scale proportionally. If you want to stretch or shrink your image independent of its aspect ratio, hold down the shift key while dragging the white boxes.
Every printer on the market has a fixed, maximum printable area where the ink or toner stops. That space is called the "non-printable margin."
If your label configuration extends to the edge of your sheet or close to it, we recommend figuring out your non-printable margins. To determine what your printer's non-printable margins are, you can look to your printer's instruction manual or use our printer margin tool. Print the document and measure the 1" line in step 2. If the line is not an accurate inch, return to the print dialog box and select the "Fit to Page" or "Print Actual Size" option. Setting the "Custom Scale" option to 100% will produce the same results. Print the document again and remeasure. Once you're sure it's printing to scale, start from the edge of the paper and work your way in until you find the first full box. The numbers next to the first full box are your non-printable margins.
Use those measurements to adjust your label design. If you're using Maestro Label Designer, hover over the "Print" menu and click "Page Setup." From there, you can adjust your settings to fit within your printable dimensions.
To keep Maestro Label Designer running optimally, we compress uploaded images during the designing process. This may cause images to appear grainy or pixelated while you're working in Maestro Label Designer, but they will print using the image's actual resolution and quality.
Click on your object to select it. Once the white boxes appear around the edges of your object, press the "Delete" button on your keyboard or right-click and select "Delete Objects."

Safe margin is an industry term that refers to the section 1/8" (0.125") between the center of your label and the label outline. This “safe zone” is a buffer that ensures the critical elements of your design are included on your printed label, even if printer shifting occurs. You should leave text, important graphics, and logos out of this section whenever possible. You can turn on safe zone guidelines in Maestro Label Designer to use this feature when designing.
