Signed into law in 2008, the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) was enacted to better regulate the safety of products made and imported for sale into the US. Passed in response to public safety concerns regarding hazardous substances in childrens' toys, the CPSIA contains regulations on the use of lead and phthalates in toys and articles intended for children under 12 years of age.
The CPSIA mandates the any toy or child care article be labeled for tracking purposes. As such, the labels used on the product would be required to be part of the overall compliance.
