New Survey Reveals Label Materials Influence Consumer Perception
By Online LabelsSANFORD, FL, January 31, 2019
With a growing number of new products hitting the market every day, businesses are struggling to create items that stand out. The markets are oversaturated, making it difficult for small businesses to rise above the noise and sell product. In its market research study, "Understanding Consumer Perception of Premium Label Packaging Materials," OnlineLabels.com examines the effect premium label materials have on the visibility, perceived quality, and attractiveness of products. Premium materials used for the purposes of the survey included silver foil, brown kraft, clear gloss, and gold foil.
With respondents choosing to purchase premium label products 80% of the time, the survey’s findings showcase consumer preference toward premium label packaging. This is the data packaging companies need to push businesses to upgrade to the premium-level products.
Additional conclusions:
- Respondents suggested they would be 19-29% more likely to find products on a shelf if they used premium label materials.
- Respondents found products 49-65% more appealing when they used premium label materials.
- Respondents were 27-44% more likely to view products as higher quality when they used premium label materials.
"This data confirms that labels as packaging are an easy, low-cost way to influence purchasing decisions," said Dave Carmany, president of OnlineLabels.com. "As consumers continue to face a plethora of choices in-store and online, packaging can be the difference between a sale and a missed opportunity."
About the Survey
The purpose of this survey was to understand consumer perception of product packaging. OnlineLabels.com wanted to know whether consumers valued products using premium label materials (silver, brown kraft, clear gloss, and gold), over those created using standard white matte labels. Participants in this self-administered online survey included 587 people from across the United States. The survey was conducted in Q4 of 2018.
